The 49ers are on the lookout for defensive prospects who can fit into their 3-4 system such as Indiana senior Victor Adeyanju, rated as one of top 10 defensive ends available in this year's draft. The Niners had a formal interview with Adeyanju at the NFL Combine in February and are anxious to see where they might be able to select him in April. Here's more information on the 6-foot-4, 275-pounder and why he's a hot prospect the 49ers - not to mention other NFL teams - are considering.

The signing of guard Larry Allen as a free agent ranks as one of the 49ers' highest-profile acquisitions in club history, bringing back memories of the team's approach during its dynastic heyday. When the Niners were going full throttle for Super Bowl titles in the 1980s and '90s, they regularly would acquire potential Hall of Fame players who were nearing the ends of their careers.

Tight end Terry Jones re-signed Tuesday with the San Francisco 49ers, who claimed him off waivers from Baltimore last season.
Jones caught nine passes for 76 yards for the 49ers last season after being dropped by the Ravens, who drafted him in 2002. He started 29 games over three NFL seasons with Baltimore.
Jones started five of his seven games with the 49ers, who scrambled for replacements after losing starting tight end Eric Johnson before the season with a torn muscle in his left foot.
The 49ers added both depth and experience to one of the most uncertain positions on the team Tuesday when they re-signed fifth-year veteran Terry Jones, the most effective of their tight ends in 2005 after he joined the team at midseason.

The 49ers will have a newcomer on their exhibition schedule when they meet the Dallas Cowboys in the preseason for the first time since 1987 as part of their four-game summer slate.
